Chuck Thurman Retires from BCU Board of Directors After 27 YearsJune 12, 2018
BCU announced the retirement of Charles (Chuck) Thurman, whose service on its board of directors spanned more than two decades.
Serving in various positions since 1991, including Chairman of the Board from 1993-2004, Thurman’s leadership helped grow the Credit Union to $3 billion in assets and nearly 250,000 members across the US and Puerto Rico. His participation helped expand the Credit Union’s field of membership beyond its beginnings with Baxter Healthcare to also include employees of exceptional company partners, including Cardinal Health, Boston Scientific, Target, UnitedHealth Group, Medline, Shire and more.
“The guidance of a highly accomplished executive like Chuck has been instrumental in driving both the success of the Credit Union today and our vision for tomorrow,” said Mike Valentine, BCU president & CEO. “He leaves behind a strong legacy of service for us all to follow.”
In addition to his contributions on BCU’s board of directors, Thurman led a distinguished career at Baxter International where he was responsible for managing $6B in retirement assets worldwide. Dating back to 1983, Thurman held various positions including Vice President of Employee Trusts and Assistant Treasurer, Vice President of Investor Relations, and Manager of Investor Relations. He led all aspects of planning management including policy design, performance monitoring, relationship management and strategy execution. Prior to holding leadership roles in healthcare, Chuck spent three years as a Commercial Banking Officer at BMO Harris Bank from 1976-1979.
Thurman’s experience in financial analysis, investing, strategic planning and portfolio management landed him positions on the ERISA committee and the National Association for Corporate Directors.
“Chuck has been instrumental in driving both the success of the Credit Union today and our vision for tomorrow”Thurman is also a recipient of the Institutional Investor’s Best Investor Relations Program for Hospital Supplies, awarded in 1991. He holds an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BA in economics from Macalester College. Chuck is an avid family man and celebrates a fulfilling life with his wife Yvette and their two children. As one of BCU’s longest serving and highly regarded board members, we recognize with much gratitude his service and contributions to the Credit Union over the past 27 years.
